Marie Blampain est une photographe française conceptuelle née en 1992 en Nouvelle-Calédonie, aujourd'hui basée au Mexique.
En 2026, sa série Fortuitous Witness reçoit le Grand Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode, décerné par un jury présidé par Valérie Belin et deux de ces photos sont rentrées dans la collection du Palais Galliera musée de la mode à Paris. Une exposition personnelle de cette série est prévue à Paris au début de l'année 2027.
Marie Blampain is a French conceptual photographer born in 1992 in New Caledonia, currently based in Mexico.
In 2026, her series Fortuitous Witness was awarded the Grand Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode by a jury chaired by Valérie Belin and two images are now part of the collection of Palais Galliera the museum of fashion in Paris. A solo exhibition of the series is scheduled to take place in Paris in early 2027.
Ma pratique photographique se développe principalement en studio, où je construis des images à partir de la composition, de la couleur et de la présence du corps. Ces éléments ne sont pas de simples choix formels ; ils constituent le langage visuel à travers lequel j'explore la capacité de la photographie à transformer notre perception du réel.
Ma démarche repose sur une recherche de précision. Chaque élément présent dans l'image est choisi pour sa capacité à orienter le regard et à soutenir l'idée développée. En réduisant volontairement le superflu, je cherche à créer des images où la composition devient un espace d'attention, dans lequel chaque détail participe pleinement à la construction du sens.
La photographie est pour moi un moyen d'explorer la manière dont une image peut modifier notre perception d'une situation. En proposant des scènes ouvertes plutôt que des récits fermés, je cherche moins à transmettre une réponse qu'à susciter une attention nouvelle, laissant au spectateur la liberté de construire sa propre relation à l'image.
My photographic practice is primarily studio-based, where I construct images using composition, color, and the presence of the body as a visual language. These elements are not merely formal choices; they are the means through which I explore photography's ability to shift our perception of reality.
My practice is guided by a pursuit of precision. Every element within the frame is carefully considered for its ability to direct the viewer's attention and support the underlying idea. By deliberately removing the superfluous, I seek to create images in which the composition becomes a space of attention, allowing each detail to contribute fully to the experience of the work.
I see photography as a medium capable of transforming the way we look at the world. Rather than simply representing reality, my images invite a closer engagement with familiar situations, revealing the richness of experiences that often pass unnoticed in everyday life. They aim to create the conditions for a renewed way of seeing without prescribing a single interpretation.
